“You don’t suppose a woman would have to be nuts to leave me, do you?” He just stood there, smiling at me, looking through me like the Motorcycle boy did. It was the first time I ever saw any resemblance between them. “I married her, thinking to set a precedent. She married me for fun, and when it stopped being fun she left.” Pg.127
“I watched him let out all the animals. I made one move to stop him but changed my mind, and after that I just leaned against the counter and watched. I had to lean; my knees were shaking so bad I could barely stand up. I was more scared than I had ever been in my life. I was so scared I dropped my head down on the counter and cried for the first time I could remember. Crying hurts like hell.” Pg. 130

Rumble Fish Book Review
Rumble Fish
S.E. Hinton
Teen Fiction
Rusty James is the main character. One of the most important and memorable events that he was part of a gang and he had never lost any fights. Also his brother was the strongest person in town. Rusty James had got into many gang fights before and had been stabbed many times. One time he was in a fight with a person that had just been doing drugs right before the fight and he did not want to fight fair. When they were about to fight he pulled out a knife and tried to stab him. Then he got a bike chain and Rusty James was winning the fight but then the motorcycle boy came and Rusty James started to stare at him. Then the guy that Rusty James was fighting stood up and stabbed Rusty James right across the side of his ribs. He fell to the floor and the Motorcycle boy went over and broke the guy’s wrist. Rusty James got up and was bleeding badly but he said that it wasn’t that bad so he didn’t go to the hospital. Then Rusty James got into another fight with a guy that he met in an ally way. He almost died because the guy had punched him so hard. Steve, Rusty James’s best friend thought he was dead so he started to yell and scream at him. Then the motorcycle boy came and punched one guy and the other guy was so scared that he ran away. Rusty James then had to go to the hospital. He had a bruise the side of a baseball. When he got out of the hospital, he went to a shop called Benny’s and he saw someone with his girlfriend. He then asked the guy to come outside with him but he said that he didn’t want to fight but Rusty James said that he wasn’t going to fight him. One day he was following the motorcycle boy around and he broke into the pet store and let all of the animals free but he died. Rusty James tried to run away but they caught him and sent him to juvenile. When he got back then lost all of his status in the gang and moved away. When Steve asked him to meet him at dinner and talk about the good old days he didn’t want to because he wanted to forget what happened back then because his childhood was so bad and he wanted to get as far away from it as possible.
Rusty James is the main character. He is very strong and his father is a drunk. His brother is the Motorcycle boy. I think that they are realistic because if you didn’t have a mother and you father was a drunk you wouldn’t be brought up properly and you would get into gangs and other terrible stuff. His father is a drunk that has no money and his son is a leader of a gang and strong. I like the characters because they are all very determined to get what they want but they have a very hard life so I would not want to be any of them. The importance of the story is to forget about the past and carry on with your life.

1. "Hey" i said. "What's up?" He didn't even look at me. I pretened to be interested in the fish. Imean, they were pretty and everything, s far as fish go. "How come they each have a bowl to themselves?" I asked. "I never seen pet dish kept one to a bowl." "Ruble fish," said the Motorcycle boy. "They'd kill each other if they could."

Journal #3
I am going to talk about Rusty James. He is very strong and has never lost a gang fight before so he is very strong. His brother is also the strongest person in town. At the begging of the book, before a fight his eyes would always see red but near the end of the book that stopped happening and he didn’t want to fight anymore. Everybody else is afraid of him except for the Motorcycle boy but near the end of the book someone took his girlfriend and he was supposed to fight him but he didn’t want to fight anymore because he had almost died in a fight. Rusty James is very important in this novel because he is one of the strongest people in town and is part of a gang and is the leader. I would not want to be the main character because his dad is a drunk and he is part of a gang so he has a very hard life. He also almost died and has many knife cuts. I would rather be a friend of the main character because I would not get in as much trouble as him or probably not as many fights.

My story takes place in the first person. Rusty James is the main character and it from his point of view. I think that this point of view is effective because the story is in his point of view so you can understand his feelings and thoughts. Journal 2
Ruble Fish is a First Person point of view. The narrator is Rusty James.
I am going to talk about when Steve and Rusty James were walking in an ally and then they ran into two men and they almost died but luckily the motor cycle boy was there.
One night Steve and Rusty James wanted to follow the Motorcycle boy around. He went into a bar where there was pool. He was playing pool and then Rusty James and Steve went into a booth. They weren’t paying attention to were the motorcycle boy was but they suddenly realized that he was gone. They went outside but they didn’t really know where they were so Steve and Rusty James went into the street. They thought that they could take a shortcut through an ally and about halfway through the ally, they met two men. One was black and one was white. One of them punched Rusty James and he almost died because he punched him so hard. The Steve started to freak out and then the Motorcycle boy came saved the day because he hit one of the gang members so hard that the other one ran away in fright. He then examined Rusty James and Steve thought that he was dead so he was freaking out. Then the motorcycle boy said that he wasn’t dead but he probably would have to go to the doctors. Rusty James couldn’t move for a very long time. It took him about two hours to get up and Steve was going to get in a lot of trouble because he was supposed to be back at his house by 10:00 pm and he ended up get back at 2:00. He father then got really mad at him and when Rusty James saw him the next day he was bruised every were and looked like he had been beaten up by his dad. Rusty James asked if his father did this and he said yes and then admitted that he probably didn’t need the extra stress of his son being gone and his wife in the hospital.
In conclusion the Motorcycle boy had saved the day again.

This story is in the first person. I am going to do the part whe Steve and Rusty James were in the ally and two people poped out. I am going to do it in Steve's point of view.
When the two men poped out i couldnt moved. I thought that we were going to be killed. Then one of the men punched Rusty James and he fell. I got really scared because he fell on the ground. I started to yell at them that they killed him. Then they said that they better kill the other one. Then the motorcycle boy came out of no where and saved us.

Rusty-James is the toughest kid in town and spends his time shooting pool and trying to live up to the reputation of his legendary brother, known only as The Motorcycle Boy. Unfortunately, forces even stronger are conspiring to change his life. Motorcycle Boy suddenly shows up again, he's kicked out of school and his girlfriend dumps him. To make matters worse, he's beginning to follow in the steps of his alcoholic father.
Fourteen-year old Rusty-James reigns as the toughest kid in his rough, depressed neighborhood. He worships his older brother, who was the leader of a gang. But his brother drifts aimlessly, and Rusty-James lives only for the excitement of fighting. A realistic, engrossing portrait of a kid with no talents and no future. Great for reluctant readers.
